Inside Lacrosse – Wimmer Solutions 2011

16 Nov

Mahalo to Wimmer Solutions for all you do. Great to have you guys in Hawaii!

Not only is Wimmer Solutions one of the top masters and elite lacrosse teams in the post-collegiate lacrosse world, but they are a respectable organization as well. Besides winning titles in Hawaii this year, a bunch of the players ran a free clinic for local kids. In honor of those titles, Wimmer Solutions has chosen four charities to support and will be sending players from the teams to personally deliver funds: $20,000 in total to organizations hand-selected by the players. Each player got up in front of the group to discuss their reasoning for picking those charities and the players will be involved in delivering the funds.

Here are the four charities that Wimmer Solutions will be donating to:

Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership Corporation
http://harlemlacrosse.org/site/GOALS.html
HLL is a youth organization that builds leadership skills and social responsibility through lacrosse.  We provide a safe and structured setting for our players, as we guide them both on and off the field through coaching, mentoring, and academic intervention. Broadening players’ experiences and skill sets prepare them to become effective leaders in the Harlem community.

Supersonics Lacrosse
http://supersonicslacrosse.org/SupersonicsLacrosse.com/Home.html
Supersonics Lacrosse is a non-profit organization that provides an after school tutoring and delinquency prevention program to the West Seattle community. Our program, provided free of charge, is designed to divert at-risk youth from becoming involved with a gang or delinquent peer group. Juvenile crime statistics indicate the majority of offenses occur in the afterschool hours.  Our program combines a lacrosse team with tutoring in an afterschool program to occupy those high-risk hours with a positive, healthy, and constructive experience.

Starlight Children’s Foundation Mid Atlantic
http://www.starlight-midatlantic.org/
Starlight MidAtlantic helps seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.

When a child has a serious medical condition, everyone in the family is affected. The children, their parents, and their siblings struggle with the intrusion of illness into their lives.  Starlight’s entertainment, education and family-centered programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illness, and connect families facing similar challenges, so that no one feels alone.

In 2010, Starlight MidAtlantic partnered with 154 hospitals and treatments centers providing ongoing support to more than 216,000 children and family members in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia. This was made possible thanks to the generous support of 300 dedicated volunteers.

While doctors work to heal children’s bodies, Starlight MidAtlantic heals their spirits through programs that are a unique blend of technology-driven tools and fun-filled special events; in the hospital, in the community, and on the Web. Unlike any other organization, the programs offered by Starlight MidAtlantic are designed to help the entire family on a continual basis from diagnosis, through treatment, and long afterwards.

New Beginnings
http://newbegin.org/
New Beginnings’ mission is to provide shelter, advocacy and support for battered women and their children; and to change attitudes and social institutions that foster and perpetuate violence.

New Beginnings provides services to those whose lives have been affected by domestic violence – physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Some who use our services are in physical danger. Others are living with controlling partners in relationships that are emotionally abusive.
